Soon after Woodstock, a new hippy counter culture was born. Nimbin followed suit with the Aquarius Festival in 1973 establishing a center for an alternative lifestyle experiment in Australia.. Thousands of colourful young people, mostly students, flocked to Nimbin, and stayed! With the hippies came, pot, LSD and psychedelics drugs. Their common dream of a loving, peaceful life instigated the antiwar movement against the Vietnam war and Environmental activism! They still actively protest to protect the forests and the environment. It was a music festival, inspired by the music of the Beatles, Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Bob Marley, Led Zeppelin. and many more.
The 60s introduced birth control, By the 70s legal abortions finally freed women. With this and messages like, `make love not war! `Free Love.` `Flower children and Flower power took us to the sexual revolution. Hippies lived together in communes sharing, caring and learning alternative ways of doing things. Growing there own food, Employing Permaculture. living in experimental housing using candles or alternative energy like solar power. They strived to be self-sufficient.
