Mission Statement by Benny Zable, President of the Nimbin Aquarius Foundation
"A CELEBRATION FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS"
Every 5 years, we have celebrated the anniversary of the Aquarius Festival in Nimbin. 30 years on, we at the Nimbin Aquarius Foundation are supporting the event as a regional celebration. This is a celebration and a seeding for hope in the world, a celebration for future generations, a spiritual journey to PEACE , focused on healing the earth we share.
30 YEARS ON, CELEBRATING OUR DIVERSITY.
The original Nimbin Aquarius Festival of May 12-23, 1973, put on by the Australian Union of Students, stands as a monument to a major cultural shift in the Northern New South Wales Region. That festival is universally acknowledged as "Australia's Woodstock". But different to Woodstock, it was a combination of many in search of a paradigm shift. People from around Australia converged on Nimbin to share their ideas and lifestyles in shaping an art-form to build a kinder world. This journey, 30 years on, is as important now as it was then - a vision quest for a world of caring and sharing.
NIMBIN AQUARIUS FOUNDATION Inc.
Formed in 1993 to help facilitate the Aquarius vision, our role in the forthcoming celebrations will be to encourage community participation, to collect information about planned events to be held from May 10th to May 24th, and to help publicise events via programming, networking, mail-outs and the media.
We are organizing some events, and would welcome the input of other community members, groups and communities to do the same. So get together, plan an event, exhibition, display, happening, and then get in touch with us so we can help with publicity etc. Get inspired, write a story or poem, create a work of art, make a garden.
The loan of any Aquarius memorabilia, posters, film, whatever, would be appreciated. We could copy and return them to you, they would be treated as national treasure.
